Performance Products: Winning with Aeroquip

With the help of Aeroquip Performance Products, Rob Atchison of Atchison Racing won his second consecutive crown in the IHRA Funny Car ranks in 2004.

Aeroquip Performance Products Help Four Drag Teams Win Big in 2004

Aeroquip Performance Products helped four drag racing teams win championship titles in the 2004 racing season.

Behind the wheels of dragsters equipped with Aeroquip Performance hose and fitting products were 2004 IHRA champions Rob Atchison—Funny Car, Mike Janis—Pro Modified, and Clay Millican—Top Fuel Dragster, and 2004 NDRA champion Ara Arslanian—Sport Compact.

Rare To Be Associated with Four Winners in Same Year

With Aeroquip Performance Products dominating the winner’s circle, Eaton is proud of its involvement with the IHRA and NHRA racing series, says Mike Manos, sales manager—Aeroquip Performance Products.

“It is rare for any performance products supplier to be associated with four winners in the same year,” Manos says.

“Eaton is proud to be directly involved with championship teams, which are proof that Aeroquip Performance Products go hand-in-hand with lead positions on the track.”

Each year, Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance Products group posts contingency money for IHRA and NHRA national events.

High-profile, Highly Successful Choose Aeroquip Performance Products

For over 50 years, Aeroquip Performance Products have been the overwhelming choice of high-profile, highly successful racing teams, and the 2004 IHRA and NDRA champions are no exception.

  • Atchison
London, Ontario, Canada’s Rob Atchison of Atchison Racing won his second consecutive crown in the IHRA Funny Car ranks in 2004. After falling over 135 points behind early in the season, the team battled back to win the championship on the final weekend by just 23 points. Atchison had three victories and five runner-ups in 2004, making a career total of nine victories and seven runner-ups—good for 5th all-time in IHRA Funny Car. He also qualified as #1 a remarkable nine times in both 2003 and 2004.

Atchison Racing has been using Aeroquip Performance hose and fittings exclusively without failure since its involvement with Funny Car racing, Atchison says.

“Eaton’s Aeroquip StartLite® hose and fittings are light and strong and have given us the performance and reliability to win back-to-back IHRA Funny Car Championships without a single oil-down, black-flag penalty. We won the 2004 Championship by just 23 points; and if we had any oil line failures, we would not be repeat champs. There is no substitution for the best, and our record with Aeroquip products proves they are the best!”

  • Janis
Behind the wheel of the Eaton Automotive-sponsored 1963 Corvette known as the “Widowmaker,” Mike Janis of Jan-Cen Racing finished 2004 with his second World Championship in the Pro Modified ranks. The Lancaster, New York, native also grabbed the title in 2001. The winner of 11 IHRA national event titles, Janis was named Pro Driver of the Year for 2004.

Janis credits his success to Aeroquip Performance Products, which he has used for over four years.

“When we were challenged with conserving weight on the race car, Aeroquip lightweight Performance Products were a necessity to help our team win both the 2001 and 2004 Pro Modified World Championships,”Janis says.

“As we face an even tougher season in 2005, we are confident knowing we can rely on Aeroquip Performance Products to win a third championship.”

  • Millican
Drummonds, Tennessee’s Clay Millican and Team Werner/Lehman Racing won seven of the 12 IHRA events during 2004, bringing their career total win to 37—higher than any professional team in IHRA history. Four-time IHRA Top Fuel Champion, Millican took home the highly coveted 2004 Sportsman of the Year award.

Aeroquip hose and fitting products provide his team with confidence, Millican says.

“Our award-winning Crew Chief Mike Kloeber demands nothing but the best when it comes to hose and fitting products, and therefore we have used Aeroquip Performance Products from day one. We hope to defend our IHRA Top Fuel Championship in 2005 and win a record-setting fifth title. Knowing that we have Aeroquip hose and fitting products on our car gives us a great deal of confidence in achieving that feat.”

  • Arslanian
Competing in both NDRA and NHRA sport compact drag racing series, owner/driver Ara Arslanian of Bullish Motor Racing has piled up four championship titles, with his third NDRA championship in 2004. In addition to national titles, he currently holds the quartermile ET and MPH world records in the NDRA and NHRA.

Aeroquip Performance Products help take the worry out of racing, Arslanian says.

“This is our fifth year using Aeroquip Performance Products, and their reliability is key to our performance. Many factors can make a race weekend difficult, so the more problems we eliminate upfront, the better we compete. By using Aeroquip Performance Products, we don’t have to worry about the reliability of our car’s hose and fittings during a race.”

Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance Products group manufactures a comprehensive line of hose and hose assemblies, fittings, couplings, clamps, and other accessories for the high performance and racing markets. These products are offered through Eaton Aeroquip Performance Products’ warehouse distributors located throughout North America.
